See you soon, Sin City!

As you might of heard me talking about in class or on twitter, I am going to Las Vegas this weekend! I have been planning this trip for almost two months and it is finally happening! I leave Friday and will spend the first three days doing touristy things in Sin City before attending a conference Monday and Tuesday. My idea of a great fall break! It is also 90 degrees there, so I am very excited as you can tell!!

The conference I am attending is the International Organization of Social Science and Behavioral Research. I am presenting a poster on a project I worked on during my senior year at the University of Alabama with my mentor. The title is: Peer Attachment, Sexual Experiences, & Risky Online Behaviors as Predictors of Sexting Behaviors among Undergraduate Students.

Some highlights from the study include:

  • 5 times more likely to self-report having had unprotected sex
  • 4 times more likely to view Internet adult pornography
  • 4 times more likely to engage in web-based chatting with strangers
  • Have an ambivalence attachment style

What I found particular interesting was 61% of undergraduates were sexting, and somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 percent include their face in sexting images. Not good!

If you are at all interested in this type of research the article can be found here   – but you will need to be registered at a university to view it on the library database!

I am interested in how this ‘poll’ thing works on wordpress – so I decided to try it out!

If you answered yes, please share any restaurant suggestions, things to do / not to do, etc! Thanks!
